I feel bad for this guy, that's a dick move

I know right now there is not Bukkit but there is word of another server being made called sponge. That uses a forge like system for plugins.

The authors of the code have every right to revoke Mojang's (or anyone else's) right to distribute it. (And I'll make clear - it was the bukkit authors that DMCA'd it - there is no "guy" to be sorry for) Recommended reading: The takedown request: http://dl.bukkit.org/dmca/notification.txt Oh , and the 30 or so bukkit admins/devs leaving bukkit over this http://forums.bukkit.org/threads/an-inde...ye.310086/

Yes slabs but not cheaty upside down slab item.

Everyone, calm down... I don't anticipate there being much of an issue with updating to 1.8, for a few reasons: 1. Dinnerbone is taking it upon himself to update Bukkit to 1.8 personally, 2. Forge for 1.8 won't require that Forge be installed client-side, meaning that it should be able to take over for Bukkit should the need arise.
09-15-2014, 11:54 PM
They can't use bukkits API with out worrying about the DMCA. Forge must wait for MCP And lex has to update both Forge and FML now that cpw retired from developing it.
09-16-2014, 04:35 AM
Well, on the bright side there still is forge and the new sponge (which looks promising already!)
09-17-2014, 04:22 AM
Guys, this is why we have people like MD5 from http://www.spigotmc.org/ >.> They've been maintaining non-shit bukkit for year(s) now. Use that. *facepalm*
99.99% of huge servers actually use it with bungeecord ![]()

There is updates in the form of patches to the last build of spigot.

It's been around for ages. *goes internetting*
Builds dating back to Quote:Success > Console Output #129 Sep 10, 2012 1:33:50 AM On THAT Jenkins, and Jenkins builds only (probably dev (1-128) local). Safe to say Spigot is good to go. It may have more recent acquisitions from Bukkit that I don't know of, but probably not of the core server shit.
09-19-2014, 12:51 AM
But you can't download the server with out bit tournet then you need to apply there update patch every update.

They apparently were rather active in drawing from craftbukkit, seeing as they're a modified version of it.

Problem with sponge.
Based on Forge. LexManos is currently the only FML (Forge) AND MCP dev. Therefore, everything gets updated in the following order: MCP -> FML -> Sponge Sponge must wait for a stable version of both MCP AND FML before it may be worked on for that version. Bukkit? It could start dev BEFORE we even got our hands on the full release of that version. This means? We have to wait a lot longer for our updates. Relying on other people to publish their shit is bad. Even with the proposed dev "team" (I haven't seen ANYTHING ANYWHERE about some of those people jumping on the bandwagon) I'm not sure the point of this. If this is going to be spout2.0 no one will really like it ![]() inb4 server checksums Another thingy here similar to sponge/spigot/bukkit/shitspout. https://github.com/TridentSDK/Trident Mega shitfuckderpfacelist of 45 odd bukkit alternatives that were deved semi-recently. http://www.spigotmc.org/threads/over-45-...ves.29046/ Yeah, this is what I do at 3:30AM. Also from what I've heard by poking around, Sponge has been wildly merging shitty code (I haven't dug through the source, nor do I have enough Java knowledge to easily differentiate). All on good report, that is. Also another reason I dislike sponge. Forge is an API. Sponge is an API. Forge is based off of minecraft code. (obfuscated) Therefore, it's an api over an api over obfuscated code. Not fun, not efficient. Massive slowdown over a reimplementation in a proper language. May take more dedication but hell, it'd work better and be possible to further optimize (via threading, etc). Also, spigot is being maintained by bytecode patches, not your arbitrary shit you were spouting earlier. Source and checksums are probably available to make sure no asshattery is going on ![]() Yeah, sorry for the post structure, i'm lazy and the readers can read. Feel free to ask questions on the above shit so I can clarify.

Sponge is a abstraction layer over forge and Lex is not the only one updating MCP.
09-20-2014, 08:36 PM
Sure it might be shitty code, but we have to consider what options we have.
I'm no mod expert but wouldn't it be easier to simply modify the existing minecraft server launcher to additionally run plugins? I supposed bukkit couldn't do that because of copyright shenanigans.

MCP has searge lex and other making MCP led has to update forge and FML his self. (I am a modder I have my sources.

I can set up a test one.

MCP is out for 1.8 so we might see some version of bukkit 1.8 come out.

Spigot is the current production option for servers at the moment. Bukkit plugin compatability, along with longevity (therefore decent codebase and stability).
10-04-2014, 01:48 PM
Uh, no it is not. Spigot has also responded to the DMCA (since it is facing the same licensing problem iirc). See the link http://www.spigotmc.org/threads/our-dmca...nse.28772/ for details.
I'M BAAAAAAACK!

What else do you propose people use then, if you're so authoritative on the subject? (Yeah, what I said WAS an opinion, but many people would agree with me probably)

Spigot will work for now. As they are still updating it with binary patches to there last build.
