long live ORE!
let's say I somehow manage to achieve first place, can I turn down the staff position for a moderator position? I do not think I am fit for a staff position because I receive responsibilities that I am unable to keep. A moderator position is however more limited to the social censorship and trial aspect of moderating, which I have experience with.
That was my first question when I saw this thread as well. I have a feeling a lot of the people who have been nominated (and a lot of people in general) are much better at the social and censorship part of moderation but perhaps have little in the way of SSH experience. IMHO unless all three elected don't have experience the first place electee should be able to pass on his/her rank to second/third place if they would be better handling the more admin-y responsibilities. After all, I imagine the vast majority of votes in the election will be based on the social aspect; administrative ability will be pretty evenly distributed among those elected.
Alternatively, during the acceptance of nominations stage of the election you could have people either accept for both moderator and staff or just accept for moderator, idk.
well put!
