I'm pretty sure the one who said hexadecimal was base 6 was either drunk/high/typo. Hex (six) and decimal (ten) means hexadecimal. It only makes logical sense.
Also, we say "hex" to conserve on chat length and ease of typing it. Hex (base 6) is almost useless while hexadecimal is what we care about.
They didn't say Hexadecimal was base 6, they said Hex was base 6.

arguments of semantics are pointless. I had someone say that to me too a while back. I don't give a crap about base 6. I'll say "hex" all I want and i mean hexadecimal.
