Hex isn't base 6 - Phase - 01-08-2015

To that one guy a few days ago in chat that said Hex was base 6, you're wrong. Base 6 is Sernary, sometimes know as Heximal, while base 16 is Hexadecimal, sometimes know as Hex. So check yo facts before you confuse guests.

I'm pretty sure the one who said hexadecimal was base 6 was either drunk/high/typo. Hex (six) and decimal (ten) means hexadecimal. It only makes logical sense.

Also, we say "hex" to conserve on chat length and ease of typing it. Hex (base 6) is almost useless while hexadecimal is what we care about.

RE: Hex isn't base 6 - Legofreak - 01-08-2015

"hex" is not a counting system at all. its like casting a spell or a curse... MAGIC

arguments of semantics are pointless. I had someone say that to me too a while back. I don't give a crap about base 6. I'll say "hex" all I want and i mean hexadecimal.

They didn't say Hexadecimal was base 6, they said Hex was base 6.

"Trinary" is not base 3

Ternary may be the proper spelling but trinary is sometimes acceptable.

"Trinary" is not base 3

Yeah it is.....

That's exactly like this post......

Ternary is the proper term, but Trinary is also a name for it. In that thread I LINKED THE WIKIPEDIA ARTICLE ON IT!?!??!?!?!?!?!?

In my defense when you LINKED THE WIKIPEDIA ARTICLE ON IT!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? it redirected me to a page reading "ternary number system". Apparently it's "also called" trinary but I had never heard that used before. The argument is identical to "hexadecimal" versus "hex".
