[Help Needed] History of ORE and the RDF - ddthj - 08-03-2015

So I'm going to reattempt to dump all of my knowledge about the RDF into a narrative about the developing community. Unfortunately I joined the RDF in either late 2011 or 2012. Since it was founded in April of 2011, and I joined in either December or January, someone is going to have to fill me in on those early details.

One thing I'd like from everyone is if they could dump what they know here in this thread as well, such as the start of the shenanigans subfourm or funny stories from any event or their experience when the RDF collapsed. I'm looking for any interesting experience or emotions or anything of the sorts that you think helps demonstrate the community at the time or how it evolved. Even if it is only from ORE, because it's not like I am online 24/7.

For example, my trial on the RDF is a funny story (especially for you new students/builders who have only lived on ORE). My trial build was a couple sets of 4 D-Flip-Flops hooked to a 4 pixel 'display' (which was broken). I passed easily. This is when they still didn't have much of a student rush and were eagerly accepting members, so they pretty much let anything in.

Please include what server + the rough date or events surrounding your post.

My trial. Was funny. I passed by building a 2 bit multiplier using a look up table. And also one xor gate that was an original design by Himehowareu. (He has it on YouTube.)

THE MELON TOASTER.

On ORE only about a month or 2 ago, I discovered the "Builders Lounge" area of the server. My friend came on the server (hes not a member and isn't really that into redstone). We decided for no apparent reason to make a giant roller coaster/minecart track using melons and we decided to call it the Melon Toaster (A pun of Melon Coaster and Toaster Coaster). Before we knew it, my friend, who's not even a builder on the server, managed to get me and Qwerasd to build this giant coaster for him (as a visitor he could not build, only ride) and even managed to grab the attention of everyone on the server at the time (at least 10 ppl) so much everyone was there including all the admins and mods just too see what all the commotion was about. It was so funny!

Even funnier though is that the finished coaster is actually really good, its bloody giant and takes at least 5 mins to transverse the whole thing!

woah i always wondered where that rollercoaster came from... heh this thread is already showing some promise

I was going to post something shenannigans-related, but it looks like the related thread it's from has broken image links so it's all gone ;-;

pauly if you see this, please find the picture D:

anyhow: me, aerodynamicbrick, pauly, pablodons, nickster258, and about 3-4 others were all on teamspeak and were exploring some of the old CPU builds that were lying around. On a particular big blue one (i forget whose it is) aero decided to start building a statue and it, well, escalated

by the end of it, there was two very blocky human-like shapes built. One standing, and one was uh.. bent over xD
many a desecration was done (not to the cpu of course) and we took a group photo with the statues to commemorate the occasion. That photo is the one that was lost unfortunately.

(this all happened 31 Jan, 2015. fairly recent, relatively speaking)

I was also part of this I think.... :p

Also the day or so after I joined I crashed the server like 10 times in one day. And was threatened by Jessassin himself that if I crashed it one more time I would be banned. (Glowstone and WE are not a servers friend.)

I happen to own a big blue CPU that has random crap built all over and around it, (I took a years break from the server). Is it this one? - https://forum.openredstone.org/showthread.php?tid=1256&highlight=hcp+v2
