I am somewhat worried about a comment from Mort implying that our server's backups are lacking.
Complete backups are not hard to do. The entire RDF world map, comparable in size to ORE, is only 2 GB uncompressed and ~500 MB compressed. A cheap 500 GB external hard drive is sufficient. This is not even considering incremental backups.
Optimally there should be at least nightly backups, or even weekly backups.
An HDD crashing should not be something ORE has to worry about.

I use both mediafire and google drive, and either one should work. GD allows 10GB with any size upload and any filetype. Mediafire IIRC is also 10GB!

Not only what tyler mentioned, but 10gb of space will actually get full pretty quickly. Not to mention that making incremental backups on services like mediafire is very hard, same goes for deleting backups after a certain time period. Off-site backups are a much better solution, yet again costs more. Anyhow, i think this will need to get discussed with the staff, not on the forums. Atleast not in this sub-forum.

The external hard drive I mentioned costs $40

Even though using an external HDD for external backup is certainly a better solution than what we have now, i wouldn't call it an off-site backup. If i nuke Mort's house both HDD's would be gone, something like external storage (preferably on a different continent in case people in Finland decide to slaughter each other off) on a completely different server would be better.
