Elections Fall 2018! READ THE UPDATE! - Nickster258 - 09-09-2018

Hello all,

The time has come for elections to be a thing and this thread is for giving details about the election process and for users to post their nominations.

Simply enough, if you want to see someone become a moderator on ORE, nominate them by posting in this thread with their username and why you think they should be on the Staff team. Nominees must be builders for at least 4 months in order to qualify for moderator.

Nominations close 9/14/18 @6pm EST

For those unfamiliar with the election process, there are two steps.
  1. Nominations
    1. Here, each user can nominate up to one person to run for moderator. Users cannot nominate themselves.
    2. The nominees are to reply to their nomination post with their acceptance and why they think they would be a good fit for moderator. If the nominee does not respond to their nomination post, they will not be put on the ballot.
    3. During this, the Staff will take note of the nominees and will be vetoing candidates depending upon previous conflicts and history. This process is all internal.
  1. Voting
    1. Once the list of nominees has been approved, the ballot will be posted and the users will be given clear instructions on how to vote.
    2. Once the voting period is up, the votes will be counted and the new moderators will be announced.
Unlike previous Staff elections, this election will implement Single Transferable Vote (STV) to evaluate the ballot. STV voting is the ideal form of vote evaluation to ensure that each vote or point given by a voter will go towards choosing the right candidate for the job. If you have accepted a nomination and would like to be featured in the first ORE podcast, please contact Nickster, DataCorruption, or Decapo. Decapo would like to discuss when you would want to do a voice interview consisting of five questions (see below) regarding the ORE and the election. You may also do the interview in text  as well, I will end up reading your answers while they are posted on screen.

He's been around for just as long as I have, and was more consistently active over that time. He has quite a bit of experience with the server and has built a CPU before, something which I can't claim to have done yet-- that drive to actually finish projects is a trait that I find personally admirable and I believe would be highly applicable to a position as moderator.

I would be a good moderator due to being active on the server most days in the 3 years i have been here, my friendships with the other builders students and staff, i understand the ruleset and follow them at all times, and i am responsible for when something i do is incorrect or can be bad towards the server e.g. w/e derps, i know when to stop when joking about aka when jokes go too far to the point of offense towards others, and i also like to make sure nothing bad is happening on the server e.g. rule 2 breakers, spammers, griefers, etc.

I accept.

I believe I would fit well on the moderation team because I'm fairly active and have been subject to very little drama over the past ~2 years that I've been on for recently. Additionally I like helping people-- I have been enjoying my position as Teacher on the school server for this reason. Moderator is a lot of the same thing in principle, just with an extended power set; I would just be able to help accept applications, run trials, and keep things calm so people can go about their business without disturbance.

I accept my nomination as moderator and would like to thank compie for giving me the chance to express my outmost gratitude to the ORE community. 

However i do not think that bragging about oneself is a good way to show who you really are. That said, i would like to show you what i have done under the time i've been on ORE:
Helping the staff team with trials when they dont feel like it.
Teaching students the hidden magic of computational redstoning.
Chasing pauk down parkour lane Tongue
of course snorting them memes !


Well it might not seem as much but this is what i do on a daily basis. I am almost always active and i love to help people out. If i would get staff that would give me the chance to help out even more. Something that i think would change the most about me as a person is that i would take alot more responsebility.

All in all i think me as staff would mean a new productive member to the staff team which i think would be greatly appreciated by the existing members. Give power to the swedes !

There comes a time in one's life where tough choices have to be made. When you have to put everything on the line and account for not just the knowns and unknowns but everything in between. In those challenging times its good to know you can depend on a friend to give you advice and helpful information, guidance and a willingness and openness to sharing know-how from years of experience. I can't think of a more meaningful way to spend my time than babysitting a bunch of pre-teen nipsuckers.

I chose nemes because he is generally kind to others, and respects the rules more than anyone i know. On top of that, he is responsible and also knows the responsibilities of being staff. I believe that he would be great at it and that he deserves it more than anyone else.

First of all, it's "he", eventhough you might think differently when you hear me. I'm a fairly active ORE member since more than 3 years now and I'm on quite often. As far as I know, I haven't broken any rules yet and if you know me, you know that you can trust me (at least i hope you know lol). Of course i would do trials, accept applications, ban spammers etc, but that should be obvious.

first of all, im not gay.

second of all. thx for the nomination. i personally believe i'd do a great job at moderator because i truly want to uphold the rules and help the community. when someone builds a lag machine, i will kick/ban them and remove the machine. when someone submits an app, i'll trial them.


basically i'll do everything that a moderator is expected to do

I accept your nomination. I know 2 people have been waiting for me to say this... I will officially unban myself when I get Moderator rank. EEVV was so great we're coming up with EEVV 2 which will turn nicktatorship into a kingdom focused on praising God and his Temple.

I think i should be a mod because ive always wanted to help staff with our bootiful nicktatorismic server.

Being more serious i want to become a member of the staff to help people out.Trial students,accepts applications and shit like that.
I have some past experience with being a mod on other servers also i helped pauk a bit with trials and watched students get trialed
quite often.Also thats a little bit weird but i feel like being a staff member makes you actually count in the community and gives some
respect.

I have no past dramas and i didnt ever get banned,except for a few joke bans and one friendly ban from koy.
If i somehow get to be in the staff team ill ofcourse be more serious and respect the rules alot more.

I accept my nomination for secret admin.

I would make a great secret admin because I like being able to mess with people and I don't want to have to do anything.  I don't like being mobbed for trials, but everyone on the server can agree that things are more fun when I am given the proper tools to make things more fun.

If you vote for me I will carry on the long tradition of trolling that has served this community so well for so long.  I have watched us grow, from the RDF in 2012 to the multiglobal organization we are today, from only doing redstone through the failed water logic and minecart logic expansions, and through to out highly successful foray into boat racing, and I strongly believe in bringing that torch forward to a new tomorrow.

I'd be a good mod since I have plans on automating systems to offload the work that admins/mods have to do so we can get rid of all the excess ranked people. So in other words I'll work myself out of my position.

I understand that there may be some controversy regarding me running for mod, so I'd just like to clarify something: I love ORE and I always have. In the past, I acted as a child and part of that was because I *was* a child. That was all long ago now, and I hope that will not affect the staff team's, or the voter's, opinion of me.

So my reasoning as to why I'd be a good mod:
  • I've always helped out ORE staff where possible (Helped Nickster with the new 1.8 testing and spawn building, helped RSW remove some bugged entities from a world region file, contributed to OREUtilsV2 when that was a thing (albeit once, but that's because we stopped using it)).
  • I've been a member of the community for a long time (just over 4 years), so I feel I have a pretty good grasp on how things are run. I've also continued to be active during this time apart from when I took a 'break' for my exams.
  • Though it seems I'm not in-game much, this is simply because I'm not working on anything major right now, so I don't have a reason to log in. I'm often in IRC and can easily be arranged to be in IRC permenantly (like pauk is)
  • I have lots of free time! This is because I have little social life. Things may change as I move to Uni soon but I intend to continue to be available.
  • I have a bad sleeping schedule, so I can often be online at weird times at night when few if any other staff are on. Again, no guarantees once I move to uni. (During the holidays I'm home so I'd be free pretty much 24/7).
  • I'm in the EU, so even without the above point the times I am online can prove quite useful.
  • I'm quite good at understanding what testificates are trying to explain even if not using exact terminology. I've been asked by multiple staff members to assist with understanding what a testificate is trying to say. For this reason, I think I would be good at running trials.
