Old guy here, wondering what the state of the server/redstone is - Treesin - 03-24-2015 Hey, I haven't been active in a year or two, but I think I'm one of the earliest members of the server (back when it was still the RDF) that still hops one once in awhile (I joined about the same time as Shrogg, if he's still around). Anyway, I'm in college now studying Computer Engineering, so I thought it might be a cool project to build a simplified MIPS CPU on the server over the summer (I have a research job, but I think I'll have a good amount of free time). I still know enough about redstone to do this, but it'd be super slow -- I stopped playing pretty soon after piston logic got really popular, so I just barely understand that, and I certainly don't get the new analog redstone/repeater locking logic stuff. I don't mind having a shitty/slow implementation, it'd just be cool to have something that worked (maybe I could even implement real pipelining). I'm curious what the 'state of the art' stuff is at the moment, and what some of the big projects on the server are, and if anybody actually remembers my existence RE: Old guy here, wondering what the state of the server/redstone is - Xray_Doc - 03-24-2015 Welcome back, Treesin! I personally haven't seen shrogg around on the forums, but I haven't been on TS or the server in forever. RE: Old guy here, wondering what the state of the server/redstone is - Chibill - 03-24-2015 Well the 'state of the art' is still the old stuff. We just have been using new ways (like analog and hex) to speed it up or compact it. But adders have not gotten much faster then like 4 ticks I think.... (I have not be redefining lately. Been working on other projects. (Mostly waiting for the 1.8 update of the build server.) RE: Old guy here, wondering what the state of the server/redstone is - Jallen - 03-24-2015 Probably the cutting edge of progression right now lies with LordDecapo and the IizR team. It only has single instruction widths with some multi line ops but a pipeline has been implemented fully and it's in the later stages of building now. It's also had various scripts designed for it and a kernel is being created so that a simple bootstrap would be possible. On top of that a network protocol is being developed in hopes of being able to connect 2 or more together to communicate. I think there's a thread somewhere on the forums about it (probably in ongoing projects seciton). If you have any more questions, just ask RE: Old guy here, wondering what the state of the server/redstone is - greatgamer34 - 03-27-2015 Wow, haven't seen you in a while M8, welcome back! RE: Old guy here, wondering what the state of the server/redstone is - LordDecapo - 03-31-2015 i just made a page for it that has more current stats. http://forum.openredstone.org/showthread.php?tid=5960&pid=37347#pid37347 whats up dude? i think i have seen u on the server like 1 maybe 2 times xD |
