Wiki software vote proposal - tokumei - 11-27-2014 Hey, so it's come time to decide how we want to host the wiki. We need to decide on what platform we are hosting the content (wikia or similar). I propose that we have a nomination period of a week or two, and then hold a vote on the nominated wiki platforms. Does this sound like a good idea? RE: Wiki software vote proposal - Magic :^) - 11-27-2014 I'm not too fussed really about what platform is used for the wiki, but then again I don't know too much about the different options.. I'm voting no purely because my vote would be pretty blind anyways RE: Wiki software vote proposal - TuchiTheSalt - 11-27-2014 Sorry I haven't been active on the server ;-; pc broke... anyway dj whats the difference between the 2 platforms? (I dont know what the platforms pros and cons) RE: Wiki software vote proposal - GISED_Link - 11-27-2014 Who (will) build the wiki (build = interface, organization etc...) ? RE: Wiki software vote proposal - Magic :^) - 11-27-2014 yes it would be also good to figure out the topics/subtopics, or post them somewhere if they have been figured out already. also could we have a shenanigans/lore section? c: anything meta even, so random viewers of the wiki can see the community etc etc. RE: Wiki software vote proposal - Nuuppanaani - 11-27-2014 (11-27-2014, 06:43 PM)tuchi0411 Wrote: Sorry I haven't been active on the server ;-; pc broke... anyway dj whats the difference between the 2 platforms? Welcome back! anyways, for the love of dog, please please please don't buy that new computer from a local store or shit. Don't let your 13 year old CoD friends help you decide. Consult someone who knows what the hell they're doing. There's tons on ORE, maybe post about it on the off topic sub forum? RE: Wiki software vote proposal - tokumei - 11-27-2014 I don't think people are understanding what I mean by the platform. We need to decide on what software package we will use to host the wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_wiki_software ), NOT what kind of content we need. We are not at the content stage yet. RE: Wiki software vote proposal - Legofreak - 11-28-2014 the ")," at the end of the link broke the hyperlink looks like there's a lot of wiki platforms. too many to read about each one IMO. do any of them have any unique notable features? RE: Wiki software vote proposal - tokumei - 11-28-2014 This is why I am proposing the nomination. If someone prefers a specific wiki system for a given reason, they can nominate it, and then we decide which one would be best by voting. (And the idea is, people will inform themselves on the nominated systems so they can make an educated decision.) RE: Wiki software vote proposal - TSO - 11-28-2014 Not wikia. It breaks my iPod. I'll read the link and add something constructive to the discussion in a moment. Quick skim: looks like Media Wiki is the best, but Foswiki and TWiki seem to be good too. I think we should try to avoid the use of java based wikis if we can, because I'm biased, and possibly even avoid "cross platform" wikis too, leaving mediawiki as one of our best options as far as familiarity and reliability are concerned. RE: Wiki software vote proposal - tokumei - 11-29-2014 I think I agree with the statement about java-based wikis. Even though I'll be setting up JSP/Tomcat on my server, it doesn't have much memory, and Java isn't always the best with memory. I think we should steer clear of Java-based wikis. RE: Wiki software vote proposal - Chibill - 11-29-2014 Java can be a memory hog if you recreate instances with out GCing old ones... RE: Wiki software vote proposal - tokumei - 12-08-2014 Vote passed, the nomination thread is at http://forum.openredstone.org/showthread.php?tid=5200 |
