Probabilty FTW - AltruismAndCake - 10-31-2014

Bob asks Joe if he wants to make a bet. The Bob bets $15.76 against the Joe's $1 that if Joe flip 5 pennies and 5 quarters, all five in one group will show up heads and Joe will win or if not Bob will win. The logic is that the odds of 5 heads is 1/32, and the odds of both groups being head is 1/1024 so the odds of winning, Bob say, is 1/32 + 1/32 + 1/1024 = 65/1024. But Joe notices a flaw it shouldn't be that but instead 1/32 + 1/1024 = 33/1024 meaning he should bet 31.04. Bob goes "Woah, woah woah! You tryin' to cheat me bro?" He proceeds to get his goons to beat Joe up. Who was right?

Edit fixed it to make more sense

RE: Probabilty FTW - jxu - 10-31-2014

ambiguous wording, both are wrong

Exactly one group has to be heads: 1/32 + 1/32 - 2/1024 = 62/1024

At least one group has to be heads: 1/32 + 1/32 - 1/1024 = 63/1024
