Well there IS hope for 1.8 bukkit, as people could nethack and patch bukkit to work for 1.8 :3

Spigot is the current production option for servers at the moment. Bukkit plugin compatability, along with longevity (therefore decent codebase and stability).

Spigot will work for now. As they are still updating it with binary patches to there last build.
