Laptop Choice - greatgamer34 - 07-15-2014 Hey Guys, Im entering College soon and i need a good gaming/work laptop. I have been looking at 2 models. One is gigabyte, and one is from ASUS; The Gigabyte one has an SSD, 4 more gigs of ram, and a higher clocked i7. the Asus one has better cooling(and generally better looks). I will be adding an ssd to the asus to make it a similar price. so here they are! Asus + SSD laptop; http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834231630 ssd; http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820239045 Gigabyte http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834233050 Let me know what you think! RE: Laptop Choice - tyler569 - 07-15-2014 As someone who bought a laptop very similar to both of those (specifically from MSI), I'd recommend *strongly* against both of those, at least as an only laptop. While having an i7 and a reasonable graphics card is nice, buying one of those is committing to lugging a huge, (relatively) fragile laptop around for at least a year or more every. single. day. I know my 17"er didn't even fit in my backpack as a start, we had to modify the laptop pouch. It's bad enough that despite spending $1200 a year ago I'm currently on the market for another laptop that I can actually bring places without hating myself. If I can impart anything useful, let it simply be that you take a good hard look at what you need and consider what you buy will be your life (and the burden of your back) for years to come. RE: Laptop Choice - greatgamer34 - 07-15-2014 im not to worried about the size/weight, im used to carrying a 17 incher around. (an old Dell inspiron). But thanks for the feedback. i think im leaning more toward ASUS. RE: Laptop Choice - LordDecapo - 07-15-2014 I go Asus,,, have had both brands.. Asus never age issues, gigabyte after a few mints I could only use it if I had a ice pack under it RE: Laptop Choice - greatgamer34 - 07-15-2014 Were they higher end laptops like these? Or were they lower end ($300-$700 range)? RE: Laptop Choice - LordDecapo - 07-16-2014 they were about $850. Although i havent had a single laptop mes up on me since i started using an Aluminum Handicaped Parking Only sign (the blue ones from the parking lots xD).. pulls heat away so well and is strong so i always get a good air flow underneath even if i uneven put its weight down RE: Laptop Choice - greatgamer34 - 07-16-2014 I actually laughed pretty hard at that! xD RE: Laptop Choice - Nickster258 - 07-16-2014 Don't forget to think about what you need. I instead am opting for allocating that $1,200 to a desktop and getting a chromebook for my mobile use ( I am a huge google fanboy and it will be extremely helpful to me ). Besides, my laptop that I got 3 years ago was only $800. You don't necessarily need a 'gaming laptop' but need one with dedicated graphics of decent proportion. Mine is a i7-2670QM with a GT 540M. While it is still pathetically bad compared to desktop builds, it runs skyrim on medium, CS:GO on high, borderlands 2 on medium, minecraft is hellah-easy on it. You don't need a top-of-the-line GPU to do this stuff and spend another $400 to do it. My laptop is still rocking it with pretty decent performance. RE: Laptop Choice - greatgamer34 - 07-16-2014 Well i still have my gaming desktop, well for, games... Duh ;p RE: Laptop Choice - jxu - 07-16-2014 macbook air |
