High walls! The discussion - EDevil - 04-13-2014 Yesh indeeeed. What do you guys think about high walls? Should we allow them and leave it up to the individual, or make a rule against them? Let me just explain why i want to bring this discussion up. I logged in today, and say this beauty; Trust me, it goes all the way up and around the corner This beautiful wall has been made by our member Benrum97. When i asked if he really needed that wall, he told me that it was good for planning. wFortin told me that it was a good way to prevent burglars. Planning, good point! Given by the fact that a high wall like this will be around 200 blocks, we can do the math by ourself! 200*256*2 (200 blocks tall * lenth of the wall * 2, he had 2 walls (perhaps 4)). That gives us a total of 102400 blocks to plan stuff! The only problem then is that when i see his plot, i can only see a CPU diagram (quite fancy one though, nothing to complain about that) of 40x40 blocks. If multiply that, we get a total of 1600 blocks being used for the whole wall. I couldn't find anything else on the wall, so i presume that this is it. Converting those numbers into percentages, we end up with 1,5625% of the wall being used atm. Get my point here? Walls are unnecessary. Their big, ugly, and just plain annoying. And if you want to plan stuff, why not just build in on the floor? Feel free to discuss down below, i would love to see your thoughts about this topic (On a side note, i'm not blaming Benrum97 here of any stuff he did. I was on his plot and decided to use his wall as example for this post. There are many more players on our server who also made walls on their plot.) RE: High walls! The discussion - AFtExploision - 04-13-2014 Keep the walls! RE: High walls! The discussion - EDevil - 04-13-2014 (04-13-2014, 11:12 PM)AFtExploision Wrote: Keep the walls! The discussion - Chibill - 04-14-2014 I like walls when recording or I set my view dis to tiny. RE: High walls! The discussion - redstonewarrior - 04-14-2014 We actually had (have?) a rule against high walls, but apparently staff's cycled since early ORE. Of course, this is up for change :3 I vote no high walls! Billboards are fine, but walls isolate and make the map crappy. People even get creative about their plot boundaries when they don't have walls. (Also, we decided that walls under, about, 12 high were fine.) (04-13-2014, 11:47 PM)AFtExploision Wrote: Well, I want prop to keep his signature wall D: Right, we made an exception there. Proper copied that over before he was aware of the rule, and we kept it as a "shush" exception. RE: High walls! The discussion - newomaster - 04-14-2014 Well one of the main reasons we decided against high walls was it made it difficult to traverse the server via /fast (trust me, this is a valid concern). Hence we made the rule that walls could be up to 12 high (since /fast still allows you just to jump over them). The other reason being they can be annoying to look at on neighboring plots. Personally, I don't think we (staff) should be able to restrict what a member decides to build on his/her own plot (as long as it is not detrimental to the server server in any way). A plot is your plot, and you can build whatever you want on it. Walls are useful for planning and some people like them for seclusion from other players. Many people also have walls which people can sign their names/leave messages on, which is an aspect of this community I've always loved (best example of this is proper's wall back on the rdf/now). I suppose a compromise would be to make your wall have an open bottom to allows players through in /fast, or make it not take up the entire length of your plot, put holes in it, etc. Also, ask your plot neighbors if it's alright with them. Just generally don't make walls that will piss people off. RE: High walls! The discussion - Xray_Doc - 04-14-2014 High walls never bothered me, that's pretty much it for where stand. RE: High walls! The discussion - Nickster258 - 04-14-2014 I do not like walls. It is confining and obtrusive. Sometimes I want to see my neighbors, other times I do not. But, as like many other members have said, traversing the area is tenfold more difficult with walls. RE: High walls! The discussion - greatgamer34 - 04-14-2014 I guess short walls or walls with gaps in them for easy maneuvering should be fine. But not like Benrums wall... RE: High walls! The discussion - EDevil - 04-14-2014 I have to agree with Great here, short walls are definitely not a problem for me (about 50-70 blocks would be reasonable imo.) RE: High walls! The discussion - Dcentrics - 04-18-2014 DESTROY ALL WALLS BUT N3W0S AND PR0P3RS RE: High walls! The discussion - Xray_Doc - 04-18-2014 We can't do that. Member will see it as unfair and will want walls of their own. So it's either all of them or none of them. RE: High walls! The discussion - redstonewarrior - 04-18-2014 Newo's wall is porous? IIRC? RE: High walls! The discussion - Chibill - 04-18-2014 I just like then for recording it seems to keep down my lag. RE: High walls! The discussion - redstonewarrior - 04-18-2014 Still, (IMHO) they hurt the server's collaborative / exploratory environment, and make things fugly. RE: High walls! Can we have a regulation where walls that are solid cannot be taller than (x) amount of blocks. And anything taller must be porous. Ie Newos Wall. RE: High walls! The discussion - Dcentrics - 04-25-2014 Propers walls ftw RE: High walls! The discussion - Xray_Doc - 04-25-2014 Once again, the walls don't bother me. But if we decide to get rid of them that can leave no exception for proper or newo as members would see it as unfair and not cooperate. RE: High walls! RE: High walls! The discussion - redstonewarrior - 04-25-2014 Mr. Newochev, tear down that wall! RE: High walls! The discussion - Xray_Doc - 04-25-2014 Can you add to the poll no opinion. RE: High walls! The discussion - tyler569 - 04-25-2014 If you have no opinion, why bother voting? RE: High walls! The discussion - Xray_Doc - 04-25-2014 To show what percentage of everyone else has no opinion on the topic. RE: High walls! The discussion - AFtExploision - 04-26-2014 What about my giant wall I am slowly making to protect my plot from having to load Benny's? (1 side) RE: High walls! The discussion - redstonewarrior - 04-27-2014 It means anyone who flies by on the map will hit a wall. If they're going fast enough, face on. ... * redstonewarrior gets his camera RE: High walls! The discussion - Xray_Doc - 04-27-2014 Then just hold a compass a right click, it's really not that hard. Plus left clicking with a compass you move faster. RE: High walls! The discussion - EDevil - 04-28-2014 I really don't have any room left in my inventory for a compass, same with (some) other players. RE: High walls! The discussion - AFtExploision - 04-28-2014 If you're running around, what do you need in your inventory? RE: High walls! The discussion - tyler569 - 04-28-2014 Guys - this thread's flying off course faster than Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, Lock perhaps? I apologize for the awful joke. RE: High walls! The discussion - JeremyG - 04-28-2014 Unless we can get back on track here, I would agree with a lock. RE: High walls! The discussion - DevonBrine - 05-01-2014 Well I would say that plain ugly walls are a mess and to be removed. Although I would love a exception in plots (for example) like proper and aft's are a beauty they are a part of the server to be kept up and as another example I will show my own plot. http://imgur.com/sCxzc85,uIdq5DE,9P5Wdog it would be horrible for me to lose this and as a close cant you all stop being lazy and use /thru RE: High walls! The discussion - Neogreenyew - 05-03-2014 As long as the neighbor allows it then i think it's fine RE: High walls! The discussion - Dcentrics - 05-09-2014 KEEP walls best for everything but some member are special. RE: High walls! The discussion - Dcentrics - 05-09-2014 jk but you get my point it seems fine as it is RE: High walls! The discussion - slugdude - 06-10-2014 If the rule the is made against them, canwe destroy them with TNT? That would be super fun legal griefing RE: High walls! The discussion - MelvinS4_ - 06-11-2014 I think high walls are fine as long as they look good (like DevonBrines one) or are used for some specific purpose (like signing or CPU charts). One should not exaggerate the size though; only make it as big as you need. RE: High walls! The discussion - Xray_Doc - 06-11-2014 This again? RE: High walls! The discussion - Nickster258 - 06-13-2014 Seriously though. With walls, it is either no walls or full-fledged walls. No intermittent step. RE: High walls! The discussion - PNWMan - 06-14-2014 this may be a bit of work, but here is a plan I propose: request users to either remove their plot walls or move to the very edge of the world. If the edge is filled, then kindly suggest that the owner of the plot to move (or if they haven't been on in months and likely will never join again, move it anyways). And, for a definition, I think "high" is about 32 blocks off the ground. RE: High walls! The discussion - Nickster258 - 06-14-2014 Best thing: Users have to verify with their neighbors in what wall they want to build. RE: High walls! The discussion - killing_you_guy_ - 06-18-2014 I say we tear down any walls without a specific purpose to a height of about 50 or less blocks. So many times i've been flying around and slammed face first into a wall with no warning. Porous walls are okay, but there should be a definite height limit of 50 or so blocks above the floor, and a width limit of 100 blocks for all walls that exceed that limit. RE: High walls!
