So, the parts (of course): PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks Type Item Price CPU AMD Phenom II X6 1045T 2.7GHz 6-Core Processor $107.13 @ TigerDirect Motherboard Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 Micro ATX AM3+ Motherboard $49.99 @ Microcenter Memory Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1333 Memory $104.99 @ Newegg - Case Rosewill RANGER-M MicroATX Mini Tower Case $55.98 @ Newegg Power Supply Cooler Master Elite Power 460W ATX12V Power Supply $24.99 @ Newegg Total Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available. $343.08 Generated by PCPartPicker 2013-05-12 21:59 EDT-0400 The total is different since I bought the parts with rebates and sales and the sales/rebates expired a few days later). Currently it is being used as a performance server for hosting but I will later add 4TB HDDs (I scrapped two old 80GB HDDs to use until I get the new drives) and an SSD as the OS boot drive to make it fast, it is also expandable for 32GB RAM. RE: I made a server for $280 with 6-cores 2.7Ghz and 16GB RAM - EDevil - 05-13-2013 Just another example of great shopping. The only thing i maybe would have done different is the PSU. Since this machine is not going to draw a lot of juice out of the wall, i would have gone with a psu that has a lover wattage. Also a 80+ silver or above would be preferably, since the machine will be 24/7 (i'll assume ;D). Nonetheless, this will be a quick powerful machine for that money! (1 last thing though, what os are you running? (please let it be ubuntu server)) RE: I made a server for $280 with 6-cores 2.7Ghz and 16GB RAM - Nickster258 - 05-13-2013 I wanted something like that but also wanted to save money. This was on sale from $45 to $20 at the time. RE: I made a server for $280 with 6-cores 2.7Ghz and 16GB RAM - Chibill - 05-28-2013 Cool server nick!
