Poll: Do you want Commandblocks - shrogg - 09-16-2013

So we were talking about commandblocks. and obviously its the next step in redstone.

The redstone community has probably quadrupled since the addition of commandblocks. Its an enormous untapped resource thats just waiting for a decent server.

So here's the question:

Do you want a Commandblock World/Server?

Note that this is not a guaranteed addition, but some of us are really pushing for it.

Have larger feelings that cannot be expressed in a small poll? then post a reply Smile

RE: Poll: Do you want Commandblocks - Darkroom - 09-17-2013

Here is my deal with command blocks if anyone uses them in a harmful way it is an instant IP ban but that is just my deal. Trust me that would be a huge deterrent to misuse of them.

RE: Poll: Do you want Commandblocks - shrogg - 09-17-2013

Yeah, Thats the only problem so far. :/

If we can work around that, then its free running, I do have a few ideas about how to tackle it too.

RE: Poll: Do you want Commandblocks - newomaster - 09-17-2013

I'm sure there are ways to disable the harmful commands with command blocks. Also, scoreboard commands might get tricky if they entangle a lot (maybe you have to always put your name on a scoreboard command (provided I understand how scoreboard commands work, you can name them anything right?)).

Woot this is my 256th post Big Grin

RE: Poll: Do you want Commandblocks - shrogg - 09-17-2013

Woot!

And yeah.

I have a few ways to setup a server to use command blocks, One of them is this
Have multiverse create a Small 256x world for every member that gains access to that server, Each world is kept unloaded until someone who has a world logs in, they are put into a holding world while their world is loaded. Once its loaded they can teleport to this world.
In that world they have full commandblock access. (except for ban/kick/etc) and if we can do it, /say will be limited to their local region.
If the player logs out, the world is kept loaded for 5 minutes. then gets closed.

This server would be limited by the amount of worlds it can have loaded, but it shouldn't be an issue on a small scale.

If it is needed, we could go large and take donations to actually hire a few servers and have a proper network of servers which people can use commandblocks on (Because i can see a commandblock allowing server that wants its users to make adventure maps become VERY popular)

RE: Poll: Do you want Commandblocks - Chibill - 09-17-2013

I say yes or you can use python to script it so command blocks only get the power to do what members can.

RE: Poll: Do you want Commandblocks - Xray_Doc - 09-17-2013

Just remove world editing commands such as @p and we should be fine.

RE: Poll: Do you want Commandblocks - David - 09-17-2013

you couln't do /op /kick and /ban in the first place, so those commands are not a problem.

But what if you want to check a certain coordinate with @p? A better idea would be to find a way so @p is restricted to their plot boundaries.

RE: Poll: Do you want Commandblocks - Konstacon - 09-17-2013

Ehmm... CommandBlocks are a bit useless IMO (unless you are sethbling) and can drive the server crazy. I vote no, because there really isn't a good point to have them.

Thanks,Snug

RE: Poll: Do you want Commandblocks - shrogg - 09-17-2013

Snugg, you are living in the past Tongue

Have you seen what you can do with these things? Seriously, Look into it because its pretty darn fantastic!

You realize @p is the command to bring all players?

@p refrences the closest player.
@a refrences all players
@r is a random player

See, this is why we need a command block server, so we can teach these guys the wonders of them Tongue

Also, I haven't played MC in 2 months.

I second that, no one knows nothing.
Double negatives are so fun Big Grin

RE: Poll: Do you want Commandblocks - Xray_Doc - 09-18-2013

Thread is going off topic. So what is the final verdict?

RE: Poll: Do you want Commandblocks - shrogg - 09-19-2013

Waiting for more responces.

Remember that its not confirmed that we can actually do this, But the poll is mainly as an incentive towards Xeo/Dot/RSW to get a plugin sorted
(it would be rather pointless to make an entire plugin for 6 people)

RE: Poll: Do you want Commandblocks - Chibill - 09-19-2013

Color screens possible with the setblock command. And wireless redstone.

RE: Poll: Do you want Commandblocks - shrogg - 09-19-2013

^ Chibill knows whats up Tongue

There are just so many possibility with command blocks that we /need/ to get in on it.

RE: Poll: Do you want Commandblocks - EDevil - 09-19-2013

Okay, so i voted no, at an early stage of this topic. BUT WAIT! Le me explain.

I find commandblocks useful, they can certainly bring some extra interesting game mechanics with them, that will help us redstoners develop more awesome stuff.
(09-19-2013, 12:48 AM)Chibill Wrote: Color screens possible with the setblock command. And wireless redstone.
However, i think that we can all agree that commandblocks also bring a large responsibility with them. With just some easy commands you can mess up the whole server :O Since we have, from time to time, a griefer on the server who manages to get through the trial process just to fuck op the server, commandblocks will be just another cheap way of creating downtime / overload, destroying stuffs etc.

So, here's my take on the argument if we need commandblocks;
IF we manage to set permissions up perfectly, this would be awesome. But we shouldn't forget the responsibility that comes with them.

RE: Poll: Do you want Commandblocks - JayJuly - 09-19-2013

The only way I can see this working is if we do it on a separate server that is heavily logged, so that we can roll back anything.

RE: Poll: Do you want Commandblocks - Chibill - 09-19-2013

Or make a rank called trusted member that can use the. But they must have been member for a year.

RE: Poll: Do you want Commandblocks - Billman555555 - 09-22-2013

CommandBlocks FTW!
We can make the spawn say:
[Openredstone] Welcome to the server @p!!!
[Openredstone] These messages are made using command blocks and redstone!
[Openredstone] Go to http://openredstone.org to explore more!

RE: Poll: Do you want Commandblocks - EDevil - 09-22-2013

So can Worldguard, or someone can make a specific plugin for it *winks at Xeo*

RE: Poll: Do you want Commandblocks - Xeomorpher - 09-22-2013

*runs

RE: Poll: Do you want Commandblocks - Xray_Doc - 09-22-2013

Make the Trusted Member rank but make it an application process.

Let's say you have to at least be a member for 2-3 months and have at least a couple people vouch for you.

RE: Poll: Do you want Commandblocks - EDevil - 09-22-2013

I could easily say to 8 peeps on skype (and i bet you, or anyone else could) to vouch for me... Still, the fact that you need to take a trial & the 3 month time period isn't a bad idea at all

Yea IK that i have done it with Java.
But it would be more impresive with command blocks ot show we are a redstone community not a plugin community.

RE: Poll: Do you want Commandblocks - EDevil - 09-23-2013

Thats true

RE: Poll: Do you want Commandblocks - tokumei - 09-26-2013

I'd be willing to contribute in any way to help with the command block restrictor, if we aren't going to be using WorldGuard. I helped with the RDF's plugins before they died, and I'm now working on personalized plugins for my own server. I have several hours every day that I can contribute.

RE: Poll: Do you want Commandblocks - TaylorLeprechaun - 09-26-2013

While I would love command blocks to be available, the problem is that when too many people use them it can be a little annoying in the chat. IMO, unless there is a way to make it so command blocks only broadcast in the plot they are placed in I would vote no to command blocks

RE: Poll: Do you want Commandblocks - shrogg - 09-26-2013

@DJ8X - Awesome, we may take up on that offer, Although 4-5 of our admins are pretty confident in the programming part. But sadly school/work is taking up quite a bit of their time.

Im closing this poll now, It seems to be pretty obvious that the majority of you guys want command blocks, so i'll definitely look into a way to do this.

RE: Poll: Do you want Commandblocks - VirtualPineapple - 09-27-2013

Command block minecarts!!
