So my university has a free project course (INF219) that is basically any project of my choice that I work on during the entirety of the semester it runs. Don't mind the limited number of projects thing, they're very broad and you can pretty much wiggle your way into one of them with any project. I decided I will do a project for ORE and asked staff to post this in announcements and got it through! We're talking at least 6-10 hours a week for 4 months! A lot can be accomplished in that amount of time and I'd be a dumbass if I didn't make it useful for something.

I’m mainly planning on building better tools for staff and improve the infrastructure, but I’d like to know what the community thinks are things with ORE that needs improvement. There’s lots that can be improved with ORE. What do you guys think is important and needs a better system? One such improvement I’m already planning on building is account syncing. One much needed application is forum and Discord roles which means we can finally moderate these places much easier which will open it to more permissions that is otherwise too risky to give.

Some ideas I need feedback on
There is a few things that I just don't know how to approach. I'd like some feedback on what you guys think is best for each.

#1: I am not sure how to implement this, but a better forum is much needed. Our forum is almost never used anymore, which is a shame. I think it is important for people to find a place to show off their projects and have people give feedback. What do you think would be a good way to improve this?

#2: People sometimes need to be able to reach out to staff quickly. Best way currently is pinging them on discord, which I think is a pretty bad way. It can overlap with a lot of personal stuff, and mixing those two is often very messy.

#3: New members should be introduced to ORE easier. I’m thinking this is a particularly important part that has huge room for improvement. I have no clue how this could be done or what’s best. I will likely have to approach this using trial and error.

If you have any input, please leave a reply or send me a PM! Anyway I'm really looking forward to working on this because it's been so long since I've sat my ass down and just coded for hours on end and I miss it.

With 1.14 Survival comes slight changes with how Survival operates. Each Survival season will be limited to that Minecraft version. This means that once 1.15 is released, we will be resetting Survival again.
Another change with Survival comes with how the seed is managed (ikr). After 2 months, the seed will be made public so individuals can then use it for things.

Hello allo (classic red),

The time has come for ORE to finally get its 1.14 privileges in check. With 1.14.4 being implemented, a few changes came along with it:

FunCommands are back in the form of FungeeCommands! This implementation works along with the proxy to implement every command that once worked with the original FunCommands. A few things to note:

/c is back. No more annoying books.

/slap, /foodfight, /rename, and others are also back and do exactly what they sound like they'd do.

There are a lot more commands not listed here. You can scour our GitHub* if you are curious about all the commands available.

Nicknames and their ugly formatting is no longer a problem (At least we think?).

Every 1.14.4 feature obviously.

Like 17 plugins or something (we can't really count anyway) were updated.

LordDecapo is banned again because duh (yes !).

Nickster258 was promoted back to student because he can't redstone.

PaukkuPalikka and Nickster258 got engaged. (Long story)

The build-off will be happening next weekend (30.-31.3.2019). Please vote in the poll above for restrictions and rules (see below for additional explanations about the options).

Current suggestion for rules and other things (post objections below):

You have the whole weekend to build.

Teaming will be allowed in any case. If you want to have a maximum team size, post below.

You are allowed to program and debug the build the following week. Big changes are not allowed during that time.

The winner is chosen on the 8th of April (next week's Sunday).

Speed is the primary goal, but you can aim for compactness too. This does not mean pure clock speed, but rather the speed of executing certain test programs. While the details of this have not been decided yet, here are some possible test programs (in rough order of difficulty):

Calculating the nth fibonacci number

Calculating the square of a number (sequential squares)

Collatz sequence starting from a given number

Multiplication, division

List comparison or sorting

Computing Ackermann's function

Hello,

There has been discussion recently about another CPU build-off, so let's do it! Post your ideas below. Please include a brief description of how the winner would be determined, whether teaming would be allowed and possible rules concerning prebuilt parts or other things you deem important. You can also mention what you think would be a good time limit for the challenge. Feel free to discuss ideas.

We will look into doing more build-offs (not just CPUs!) and other events in the future, so if CPUs aren't your thing, don't worry - more is coming. Don't be afraid to give it a try though .
Vote on the poll and discuss if you think 30.-31.3.2019 (Saturday and Sunday) is a fine time for the build-off. Perhaps we can make it so that not everyone has to start at the same time - that way more people could have a chance to participate.

Hello,

Despite experiencing a few issues at the start, ORE Network is finally up and it has been running fairly reliably. We thank all the Staff for helping put together the ORE Network and we would also like to give much thanks to user _zSwifty_ for his part in the entire process. With his contributions, Staff would like to recommend his promotion to Moderator. Please vote regarding his promotion with the poll attached.

Since many people have been asking questions about ORE Network, it only makes sense to answer some of the frequently asked questions.

Hello everyone!

The Staff team on ORE is excited to announce that ORE Network / 1.13 is finally ready to be released on March 10th! The Staff team has worked incredibly hard the recent months to rebuild our systems for easy expansion in the future and an overall better playing experience for all.

What will be different?

The maps. There will be a map reset for all servers in order to "clear the clutter" and because people seemed to really want it.

One IP. Everyone will be able to connect with mc.openredstone.org to get to any server.

We will be introducing the archives server so people can easily browse the old maps.

There will be no overlapping period with the old maps and the new network maps, so if you want to copy things over without downloading the archive, we recommend you do so soon by using our schematics system.

Something that Staff thought of that would be fun also: "anarchy". We put Anarchy in quotes because it is not quite full anarchy, but the idea is that the day before the release of 1.13, water flow, lava flow, fire spread, and TNT will be re-enabled so users can just enjoy the last day of the current map before we get to restart on a new, fresh map. There will be some restrictions to make sure the "anarchy" goes smoothly and doesn't crash the server too often, but regardless, we think it may be fun. Please vote on what you think of this idea.
Copying an entire plot to the new world will not be allowed for several reasons. Instead, you should make schematics for every build you consider significant enough to bring to the new world or just to have as a keepsafe. That way, you can keep your new plots and builds more organized and also minimize the impact that pasting an entire plot has on server performance.

Potential Server Map Wipe

Hello allo,

As some of you are aware, Staff has begun fervently working on 1.13 with many proposed changes to come along with that. One big change that Staff wanted to talk to the community about is on the idea of clearing the server worlds. This would simply mean that upon ORE rolling out 1.13, an entirely new set of maps will be rolled out with School and Build.

Why? Multiple reasons, really.

Firstly, 1.13 did quite a bit of modifications with block storage types and how the server communicates with blocks. Upgrading a 1.12 map to 1.13 actually requires the servers to go through a conversion process for the map. However, not all of these conversion processes go smoothly. There have been reports from other servers that this conversion process breaks the world or an area of the world. We would like to avoid this headache.

Secondly, a fresh start. The current Build and School map has lived a long and healthy life of almost 4 years. It has gone through many upgrades, rollbacks, and mcedits. It also has had a lot of creations built in it that are no longer used or haven't been used in ages. A new map would easily suffice as trying to convince users to cleanup old creations on their plot would be a long process considering our user base.

Just so people don't get obnoxiously worried, the old maps would be archived so users can easily download them and copy schematics over that they didn't think to save prior to the new map.

This is just one idea of likely more to come that Staff would like to present to the community formally so that we can get a better feel of everyone's opinion on this idea.

Sincerely,
