I'm not sure you will have enough time to make a cpu for your trial. Maybe consider something like an ALU, or a multiplier/divider, or square root extractor. That would be more interesting.

You can't build a computer in an hour though. At least you can't build one that has an ALU and some registers and everything fits together nicely and is timed correctly.
