New Theme Feedback - tyler569 - 02-02-2015

Been working with a friend with regard to the possible redesign of the ORE main page i previously mentioned, and he's given me the green light to post his initial concept for feedback.

My friend is making an account right now so he can respond to feedbacks, his forum name is A.J.

As promised: the concept.

Specifically, any thoughts on the content area(where the two paragraphs of text are located, and the sidebar/quicklinks(server URLs area)). General thoughts are also welcome, though whether or not it fits the theme/I think is a good idea is up to me/tyler me thinks.

Also, whoever did the banner for the YouTube account: Kudos whoever you are. I literally took the idea from that banner and turned it into this draft.

It's ok. I feel like its missing something. It needs something to make it pop. Maybe we need a logo.

can you actually post the html/css file so I can play around with it? anyway I think it looks really cool, but the buttons kinda need to be more button like. They are kinda blending in in my opinion. also with the content below the server list is also kinda blending in a little bit, that is technical information and needs to be separated from the rest of the content. other than that really looks cool with the color scheme and graphics

I made a go at the logo myself since it looked a little too spread out, I kept the colors but I couldn't find the same font you where using so I chose myself. either way it might just be me but I find compact logos to be the best, you could even add in a little bit more graphic after the "Open" part, maybe the classic lamp+piston

It's an image created in Photoshop displayed in an html file, no real markup/style sheeting has been done as of yet. Have to get the design finalized before that starts.

The navigation links will have some css selector parameters to make it not so plain.

I was confused what you were specifically talking about in the last two sentences, until I realized it was targeted at my use at white space. Yeah, it could definetly use something to distinguish between the main content area and the sidebar. I'm still thinking about how to improve it. I think the main reasons it's like that is due to me getting hungry when I got to the page content and lost my creative energy.

I thought about doing the same thing, the problem is not making it look corny. I've been playing around the idea of making a simplistic piston attached to a glowstone block redstone lamp...Just need to sit down and hammer one out and see how it turns out.

My only suggestion is to make the area where the IPs are listed to be more defined. Because there is no clear transition between the IPs and the descriptive paragraphs, I feel like it doesn't flow as easily.

New draft. Took the content void and put some real organization into it. Discussed about possibly using a Minecraft server info plugin with Tyler, just in case you're wondering where the stats come from. This is how it might look.

Will think over a logo in the coming days. Also will try to insert a Minecraft redstone element of some kind. Hopefully. If its not done right it'll look corny as hell, especially with my hunger for minimalism.

EDIT: also about the ping thing, there's really no point as ping just measures the time it takes for data to reach the server and back meaning it varies from place to place

I agree on the posts I see about a logo tho. Im good with those sorta things. I'll make one and post here for ppm to look at later.

P.s.s The server stats are a nice touch in the more recent drafts

I feel anything I have tried to add between the main content and the side bar would just add visual clutter, just using the title blocks as a sort of pseudo separator is just the right amount imo.

in which case, do you think the logo should be the only thing up there? it is not centered after all. and just this thing floating a little to the left feels weird

I'd Change the white background to a slightly darker gray(#C0C0C0), Move the "Forums", "Chat" (etc) buttons put to the right side of the video, and maybe throw in some chat or a recent project feed.

Me having school and not having an immediate plan for what to do about the forum happened.

This is still all sitting on my replacement server that I still intend to use, but my time and state of setup leave me unable to complete the work at this time.

I think I'm at the stage when I'd like crowd feedback, so, if I may ask any interested parties to go to http://lucifugus.vms.pw/ and poke around a little.

Look at the wordpress, register for the forum, make sure it all works.

The forum will be cleared before it really goes live regardless of what we end up doing with it, but please don't take that as license to be too stupid until then.

Note that as it stands the forum is how it will look when it goes live (except the logo). I had been looking in to updating the current theme for it, but enough things have changed since 1.6 to make me think it's not worth it at least for me to put the effort in. We'll leave the forums default for now and if in future someone comes to me with a better design I won't hesitate to consider it.

if ur gonna put the teamspeak password on the fornt page, then what's the point? It would be much more useful if people would need to ask online so that it is rather members than others that use ts

Hey tyler, I don't see a main navigation bar to easily get to furs and such..
actually it's there, but I'm on mobile, and it loaded those links somewhere behind the YouTube video. Not sure why,

The fact that the password exists solely and only to prevent random people (often who don't speak english) from happening upon the TS randomly and deciding to set up shop there.

This used to happen rather often, and has not once since the password was instituted. I count this a win.
