I had been exploring a simaler avenue a few weeks ago, and unless we use the forum there's no way to prove only members vote/people only vote once.

For now (and I do have something cooking) this is the best way to tally votes.

That being said, this election has not been messed up as you said. The instructions are very clear and if you are one of the people who followed the post instead of the message, our don't recall, send them a pm with your favorite.

Thus is really not as complicated as you seem to be making or to be. Remember, not only do the current Admins have brains of their own, they were also elected - by you and your peers - to handle situations just like this. If you neither trust them nor have confidence if their abilities I would have to suggest that you abstain from voting, as you will never be happy no matter what happens. If this is not the case, pursuing got a redo will only extend this voting process, the collection of nominees for which started around a month ago.
