I saw this on Reddit. Apparrently there are two possible explainations (do not read if you're easily disturbed by nastiness):
1. It's in an area that's too small - in the free, they are pretty much stretched out all the time, so it's primitive brain thought it's tail was another snake.
2. It's too hot - brains does not like to operate outside of a very narrow range of temperatures, and snakes are cold blooded (AKA can't regulate it's own body temperature). This may have caused it's brain to overheat.
It may have been a combination of those two, and hunger (the snake being underfed) may also be a factor.
You'd think it's no problem, when it notices it's in fact eating itself it ot can just spit itself out, right? Well, no. Many snakes have some spechial teeth which make it easy for things to get in, but close to impossible to get out. Therefore it ends up choking on itself.
Some people linked to the original, full length video. I didn't watch it (I'd probably faint if I did - eww), but people said that approaching the end of the video, it started to bleed out of it's mouth. I don't know if it's because of it digesting it's tail or the result lf an attempt to drag itself out or what, but yeah - quite disturbing.
Btw, keep in mind that all this is from the most reliable spurce there is - random comments on Reddit.
