Migration of IRC services - what you need to know. - tokumei - 02-09-2018

During the upcoming week, the services at irc.openredstone.org will be migrated to a new server. Very little will change (besides the fact that it will be Dockerized), but here are some of the things that you will have to be aware of.

- Due to issues migrating the registration database, NickServ/other IRC service bots will be reset (sorry!). You will lose your registration, so make sure you re-register your nickname. The good news is that we will no longer be using NickServ/ChanServ to moderate usage of the channel. Instead, we (I) will be developing a system that is more tailored to the specific needs of the community. More will come on that later. Until then, I'm trusting you all to keep IRC civil.

- Though the transition will be made as seamless as possible (with nearly zero downtime, which I am proud of myself for orchestrating), you may experience a loss of connection once the old server goes down. I will only take it down once the new server has been made available at the provided hostnames, so you should be reconnected immediately to the new server (YMMV depending on the IRC client and DNS cache policies).

- The hostname will be changing. This does not apply if you use "irc.openredstone.org", but if you use "irc.nonemu.ninja" to connect, that will no longer be available. I am retiring that domain and using "irc.tokumei.ninja". If you have troubles connecting after the migration, make sure that your hostname is correct.
