How should intOREnet LANs work? - slugdude - 07-10-2016

So, I've basically decided that I will make a simple device that will sit between your LAN and intOREnet, sending packets to your LAN if addressed to it and to intOREnet otherwise. It will also ignore packets addressed to a local device but originate from the LAN, as the LAN's infrastructure should deal with that. (According to Wikipedia the best description for such a device would be a residential gateway).

After that, the network topology is up to you, I won't enforce any sort of structure beyond that except that there are a maximum of 7 devices per LAN and a LAN address of 000 should point to every device in that LAN.

Other than that, the topology of the LAN is really up to the user. However I also recognise that people won't want to make their own network hardware and therefore I will make some hardware to support the most popular topology, hence the poll. I'll probably make some hardware-reconfigurable switches too.

Please don't vote if you don't plan on being part of intOREnet.

This is not the shenanigan section.

What about a combination of star LANS with a partial mesh WAN?

Partial mesh is close to what the WAN (intOREnet) will be. I'm asking ONLY about the LAN.

Make it somewhat like an actual network, at least when it comes to address standardisation.
111 is broadcast (everywhere connection within the lan except for the source)
000 is the network (basically nothing)
and 001 is the default gateway (internet)

I have to say that you could leave out the network part, seeing as you can't subnet a 3 bit address.

I voted Tree.
Ya'know, oxygen.
