I bought a Thinkpad T400 and I love it.
Get a Thinkpad. I mean, Stallman uses a Thinkpad so that's gotta stand for something.
(Obviously you wouldn't get a T400 I'm not suggesting that, I'm quite aware it's underpowered for your needs.)
I would much rather give Apple my monies than Microsoft :/
Also, I'm not a fan of RMS, and with the same argument, Linus Torvalds has used Macbooks.
And yes, Thinkpads are really nice, wish I could get a T450s w/ an i7 for a good price.
