Full Version: Ranking system

As you know, we've been experimenting with a category-based rank system for the past few days. On the old server, we had sweeping ranks which generalized too much, and this caused friction. The idea behind the categories was that no promotion was too large, that people are not expected to have all-round knowledge, and that people would feel less frustrated when trying to be recognized for their works. The bar ranks lay unimplemented, but we're wondering what you think. I've posted some options up above, feel free to post here if you have any comments or recommendations for other approaches.
I liked the idea of a bar ranking system. Not as much for personal gain, but more so that other people how have a question know who to ask for help.
And I think that members should build thinks because they like to build circuits, not because they would gain a rank.
Note that the current bar system can be difficult to maintain for us admins/foremen.

However, now that I think about it, that might just be because there are so many levels for someone to be on for a skill. I'd recommend trying it with less levels, i.e. white(f), light gray(7), dark gray(8) and black(0).
I like just the idea of people asking questions. Plus it puts people into groups, and I am not good with picking one person out of a whole. I like groups and organization xD.
JeremyG had a really good point on the lowering the amount of stages per category.
Maybe even simplifying the ranks even more by removing a few category may help, as well.
I like jeremy's idea.
I think there should be 3 stars rather than bars which change colors.l
1: Redstone skill.
2: Algorithm skill.
3: Teaching skill.

Starting from white then to light grey then grey then dark grey and black.
I think having 10 different groups and then about 10 different colors per group can really set people apart. I do like though the idea of teacher skills, as If I were to ask someone a question I would ask someone with the third star.

Sadly, the only grayscale colours are White, LightGray, DarkGray, Black.

Actually, those are nifty categories. The poll suggests people would like a category based rank system, preferably with four to five ranks and three to four categories. The staff will take this into consideration.
